Introduction
Back in the day, I was a programmer for Honeywell Defence Systems in Toronto, ON. Now, I sort of hack around.
My ongoing concern is with the use of computing resources in the context of being a University professor in the Humanities. I see far too many of my colleagues using their $2000 machines as little more than typewriters and e-mail/web browsers. I ascribe this not to a lack of intelligence or savvy, but a general lack of time to spend really learning how everything works.
What is needed are tools aimed at the research, teaching, and administrative needs of the Humanities professor. In order to help out a little, various tools (my own and by others) will be posted or reviewed here. Articles debating various approaches will also be posted here.
What can I do with this box I have before me?
A good question requires some thought. Let me get back to you.
